Designer Luca Nichetto was born and raised in the island of Murano. He now divides his time between his two offices in Venice and in Stockholm.
With Vaso Carafe Nichetto combines his two worlds. The shape takes distinct inspiration from Swedish modernist mushroom shaped water towers, with a diagonal top cut. And the craft is genuine Murano.
Since the 13th century the Venetian island of Murano is famous around the world for its glassmakers, unsurpassed masters of mouth blown crystal ware, brilliant colours and texturing. (The colours are created by adding compounds or solutions. Ruby red uses gold as a colouring agent.) One of the finest glassworks on the island is Nason Moretti where Vaso Carafe is blown for Smaller Objects.
The carafe holds approximately 75 centilitres of table water or decanted wine. But it also doubles as a beautiful vase. The double function echoes its dual background. Italian and Swedish. Romantic and functional.
Made in Murano, Italy.
